Mythical creatures have long been a source of interest for many. Some of them good and some bad. We all know famous ones like the Chimera, the Pegasus, and the Minotaur; here are some of the bad ones that never once you have heard of.

 

1-Bakhtak

Ever awoken from sleep unable to breathe feeling something heavy on your chest?
According to Persian legends, the Bakhtak is to blame for it. This creature is said to turn dreams into nightmares as it sits on its victim’s chest, causing all kinds of fear and disturbance, so sleep tight knowing this terrible creature doesn’t exist, or does it?

Coming straight from the Indonesian mythology, the Pontianak is literally translated to “Women who died in childbirth”. They’re beautiful pale skinned women who have a taste for men, literally. The sound of a baby cry is a sign they’re coming, and the closer they get, the softer the cry gets. Once they reach you, you’ll smell a lovely fragrance which will be the last nice thing you experience before they dig into your stomach with their sharp fingernails and eat your organs, they’re said to locate their pray by sniffing clothes that are out to dry. So, are you sure want to leave that laundry out for the night?

The Soucouyant is the Caribbean equivalent to a vampire, it’s known to have the shape of an old hag by day, and an exotic young woman by night. The Soucouyant seduces its victims into having sex with it only to suck their blood or make them slaves forever. It’s also capable of shapeshifting into a ball of flames that can enter the houses through any crack or hole. It’s safe to say that we’re all glad this creature is mythical, and we hope it stays that way.

Sharks are cool, right? well, yes, when they’re far away in the ocean. Up close they’re one of the most terrifying creatures there is. Now imagine a shark that walks on land, the Nanaue is exactly that. It originates from Hawaiian folklore, and it’s told to be the product of a relation between the shapeshifting king of sharks and a human girl. It was adapted as villain in some comic books, and what villain is scarier than a land walking shark?

The Enenra is a shapeless beast made of smoke and shadows that’s told to haunt people in foggy days, it can take the form of a human and it’s said to walk among men to chose its victim, a man of great sins. It waits out and attacks once he’s alone, but it never just kill. It enter the victim’s body through its mouth and devours him from the inside out, so make sure you’re a good boy so you’d make Santa’s gift list, and stay away from The Enenra naughty’s list.
